Queerology presents an exhibition at Emergency. Art Space in Vevey, Switzerland that opens up conversations about experiences and histories of misogyny from members of the collective. These include transmisogyny and misdirected misogyny at non-binary people as well as trans men - the latter being very rarely talked about, and internalised misogyny. For many, navigating misogyny becomes a part of the everyday. Every facebook status and street corner becomes a battlefield. Every haircut or pair of shorts becomes an atom bomb. Their very existence, the biggest act of resistance ever made.
Misogyny is a large part of patriarchal societies and has been on the rise since the election of Trump and the vote for the UK to leave the EU. The artists in this exhibition have experienced brands of misogyny particular to them and their identity, while there may be some overlaps, they are still a part of that artist’s specific experience. Each artist has been asked to their own experiences of misogyny specific to living in the UK and also how they cope with it.
