#RainbowPlaques project
To celebrate Leeds Pride 2018 Queerology made a #RainbowsPlaques trail, working with historian Kit Heyam, to make Leeds’s Queer History visible.
There are over 160 blue plaques around Leeds commemorating famous people, buildings or events - but very few of them make our queer history visible. Leeds Civic Trust developed a trail of rainbow plaques also in time for Leeds Pride, which marked places significant to well-known LGBT+ history. But what about our unsung heroes, our personal victories, the secret sites of queer
resistance that didn't make it into the history books? Taking inspiration from York's DIY
rainbow plaques trail, also created by Kit Heyam, Queerology made 30+ cardboard
rainbow plaques that were displayed throughout the city for Leeds Pride on Sunday 5th
August. Many remained in place a few weeks after as some of the locations became quite
fond of them.
